September in Florence: Sacred Light, Artisan Traditions, and Autumn Abundance

September in Florence is a month of awakening. After the stillness of August, when shutters close and locals retreat to the seaside, the city begins to stir again. Restaurants reopen their doors, artisans return to their studios, and the rhythm of daily life resumes with renewed energy. It is a time of new beginnings, when calendars fill, goals are set, and Florence feels alive once more.

The air softens, the light turns golden, and the city seems to exhale after summer’s heat. It is a season to savour, art and craftsmanship in full expression, festivals in the countryside, and new places to stay that whisper history and design.

This September, Florence Attaché guides you through the most beautiful ways to experience this moment of return and renewal.

Fra Angelico’s Divine Light

From 26 September 2025, Florence dedicates a landmark exhibition to Beato Angelico, the Dominican friar who transformed Florentine painting with perspective, light, and devotion.

In a rare dual exhibition across Palazzo Strozzi and the Museo di San Marco, over 140 works reunite, altarpieces, drawings, sculptures, even manuscripts lent from the Louvre, the Metropolitan, and the Vatican. At San Marco, the monastery cells still frescoed by Angelico create a dialogue between silence and vision. At Palazzo Strozzi, grandeur frames his luminous panels alongside works by Masaccio, Lippi, and Ghiberti.

It is a journey through sacred art and spiritual reflection, one that Florence Attaché can enrich with a private guide to help you feel the rhythm of Renaissance Florence, both public and contemplative.

Artigianato e Palazzo at Giardino Corsini

Each September, the Giardino Corsini, normally hidden behind high walls opens to celebrate Artigianato e Palazzo. From 12 to 14 September, more than one hundred artisans from Italy and beyond present their crafts in this Renaissance garden.

Here, craft is not simply displayed, it is lived: a leather worker tooling by hand, a paper marbler coaxing colors across water, an embroiderer stitching Tuscan landscapes in silk. New this year is Artigiani Golosi, dedicated to gastronomic artisans, proving that food too is a form of craftsmanship.

Wandering among the hedges and fountains, you feel part of Florence’s living tradition.

The James Suite Hotel: A Palazzo Reimagined

In June, Florence welcomed a discreet new address: The James Suite Hotel Firenze 1564. Once a convent, then a family palazzo, it has been transformed by architect James Cavagnari into a 14-suite boutique hotel that balances Renaissance history with contemporary refinement.

Step through its modest façade into vaulted ceilings, frescoes, and a secret courtyard where time slows. Each suite is distinct: velvet, rare textiles, curated art, even a royal wardrobe once belonging to Queen Elizabeth II.

The culinary spaces shine as well. The James Restaurant serves Tuscan flavors with English inflection, while the 1564 Lounge Bar glows under a Murano chandelier, offering cocktails infused with Tuscan botanicals.

For guests seeking a stay that feels both intimate and inspired, The James offers a high-quality refuge in Santa Croce. Florence Attaché is pleased to provide special rates and curated experiences for our clients.

La Festa della Raccolta at Vignamaggio

From 5 to 7 September, the hills of Chianti host La Festa della Raccolta at Fattoria di Vignamaggio. This harvest festival celebrates the season with artisan markets, creative workshops, and communal meals in the vineyards.

Children craft collages from leaves while adults paint with wine. Traditional wooden games dot the gardens, live music drifts through the air, and on Sunday, long tables are set for a Tuscan lunch under the vines.

It is joyful, rustic, and immersive, a chance to taste, play, and live the vendemmia tradition. We can arrange your visit, complete with transfers through the scenic Chiantigiana road and private vineyard tours.

Autumn Serenity at Villa La Massa

Just fifteen minutes from Florence, Villa La Massa offers a countryside retreat on the Arno. Autumn here means truffle hunts in the woods, olive harvests in silver groves, and evenings of seasonal cuisine paired with Chianti wines.

Guests can join hunters and dogs in search of the prized white truffle, or hand-pick olives before tasting the peppery green oil straight from the press. Others may simply linger in the gardens, join a wine-pairing dinner, or cycle along the river at dusk.

It is a place where time slows, yet every detail speaks of Tuscan abundance. Florence Attaché can secure the best suites and organize these seasonal experiences with ease.

Florence in September is both return and renewal. Streets fill again with voices, artisans reopen their workshops, and the city seems to set new intentions for the months ahead. Against this backdrop, the sacred light of Fra Angelico, the joy of the harvest at Vignamaggio, the elegance of The James, and the serenity of Villa La Massa all become part of a single story.

We are here to shape these moments into yours, with private visits, special access, and carefully curated stays that ensure your time in Tuscany is lived fully, beautifully, and without hurry.

This is September in Florence: a season of connection, craftsmanship, and abundance. And we would be honoured to guide you through it.
